Choose the story together.
Let the child help choose a book or story that interests them. Use something you already own or borrow from a library. Keep the choice appropriate to their age and interests.
Questions to try
- Which story would you like to hear?
- What do you notice on the cover?
- What do you think might happen?
Read and make room to respond.
Read aloud at a comfortable pace. Pause when the child has a question or wants to talk about a picture. If they want to read a part themselves, take turns.
Questions to try
- What do you notice here?
- How do you think this character feels?
- What would you like to ask?
Keep the connection going.
Ask what stayed with them, then plan to read together again tomorrow. Make sharing a book part of your daily routine. This is something you do together offline. Heir Standard does not need a child’s name, photograph, or personal information to know that the first step matters.
Questions to try
- Which part did you like?
- Did the story remind you of anything?
- What should we read next?
Put it in your own words.
The book we want to read together, and the time we will make for reading each day.
Keep your notes for your own use. If you want to share an idea with Heir Standard, we’d like to hear it.
