Seven days of reading together
One book. A little time. No rush. Check a box after each activity.
Day 1 · Let them choose
Offer two books, or revisit a favorite. Read together for five to ten minutes—or as long as feels comfortable.
What caught your eye on the cover?
Day 2 · Notice the pictures
Pause on one page. Let the child point, describe, or imagine what is happening. For a baby, name a picture and follow their attention.
What do you notice that I missed?
Day 3 · Make room for a question
Read a little, then pause. Invite a question. It is fine to say ‘I don’t know’ and look for an answer together.
What are you wondering about?
Day 4 · Connect it to home
Find a moment in the story that reminds you of your family. Share a small memory, without needing to write it down.
Does this remind you of anyone or anything we know?
Day 5 · Give the story a voice
Take turns reading, describing a picture, signing, or making a character’s sound. Listening counts too.
How do you think this character feels?
Day 6 · Make something from it
After reading, draw a scene, act it out, or tell a different ending. Use what you already have at home.
What would you add to this story?
Day 7 · Choose the next chapter
Revisit the favorite moment of the week. Pick a book and a time to read together again. Celebrate the time you made for each other.
What should we read next?
